Families associated with the Lexington United Soccer Club in Massachusetts have reported a financial loss totaling approximately $500,000 after a planned youth soccer trip to the United Kingdom was canceled without warning.

The trip was designed as a soccer immersion experience for eighth-grade players, intended to provide students the opportunity to compete against other teams overseas. The itinerary included visits to London, England, and Edinburgh, Scotland.

Details of the Cancellation

The excursion had been in development for two years. According to club president Sean Kennedy, the trip was unexpectedly canceled in early April 2026, only one week before the scheduled departure.

The club has identified the tour agency responsible for the trip as GoPlay Sports. Kennedy stated that the agency is duping the group out of the experience.

The scale of the planned trip involved approximately 130 people representing 55 different families. Parent Nicole Kwitkin stated that the club had provided the agency with nearly half a million dollars.

Financial Impact and Communication Failures

Parents reported that the company stopped responding after monthly payments had been made. Kwitkin noted that she personally lost nearly $8,000 in cash.

Following the cancellation, families reported that they have not received refunds or a clear explanation from the agency. Kwitkin described the agency as having totally vanished without offering an apology.

I mean we’re all disappointed that we can’t be together to go on such an amazing trip. We were looking forward to this since we were like nine.

Braiden Kwitkin, Player

The club president eventually convened a meeting with the affected families to inform them that the company was not responding and the trip was unlikely to occur.

Kennedy emphasized that the impact of the situation extends beyond the financial loss of the funds provided to GoPlay Sports.
