Italo Ferreira made a splash at the 2025 Lexus Trestles Pro, displaying high-energy surfing with aerial maneuvers and rotations. His performance served as a reminder of his near-win at last year’s WSL Finals. Ferreira said he enjoys surfing both sides of the wave at Trestles, allowing him to mix up his approach.
Kelly Slater, despite moments of fluidity, struggled to maximize his rides. Slater caught six waves but couldn’t match the field’s overall performance. In his elimination round heat, Slater briefly led before Barron Mamiya secured a higher score, despite an injury scare.
Ethan Ewing delivered a standout performance in his elimination round heat, while Alejo Muniz also impressed. Ewing said he felt good to be at Trestles and was looking for a bigger result. griffin Colapinto achieved the highest heat total of the day.
Colapinto said that competing at home with support from friends and family felt amazing. Filipe Toledo, Jordy Smith, Cole Houshmand, and Jack Robinson also secured wins in the opening round.
