LG Display is leading the trends in automotive technology management with the introduction of its 40-inch P2P display, a groundbreaking advancement in vehicle display systems. The display caters to the increasing demand for large-scale, customizable vehicle displays, which enhance user experiences and driving operations through improved visualization and functional management.

This initiative aligns with LG Display’s “JUMP” management strategy, which stands for JUST in Time, LG Display’s Unique Value, OLED technology, Market Leadership, and Partners that customers can trust and grow together with. This strategy propels LG’s approach to automotive innovation.

The 40-inch filler two-pillar display is designed to span from the driver’s side of the windshield to the passenger seat, offering a seamless, unified display experience throughout the interior. This technology is especially valuable in Software-Defined Vehicles (SDVs), which rely on software for performance management and driving convenience. SDVs have increasingly sophisticated navigation, entertainment, and climate control functions, necessitating larger, more versatile displays. With a large screen, these vehicles can handle robust data visualization.

For example, picture an autonomous car like Tesla’s newest model. With such a large display, a Tesla’s center-engine configuration might seamlessly integrate both driver and passenger experiences on a single screen.

LG Display’s 40-inch P2P display is set to revolutionize the automotive experience. Key features of this display include a wide screen, allowing incomplete visualization and functionality control, SPM (Switchable Privacy Mode) so drivers can answer calls or texts without disturbing passengers, and local dimming technology that enhances energy efficiency and visual clarity. By reducing power consumption, this advancement not only improves driving efficiency but also ensures greater safety by focusing the driver’s attention on the road. This wouldn’t be unimaginable to those in the electronics industry, drawing parallels with foldable screens in high-end TVs and smartphones like the Samsung Galaxy Fold.

These features are unusual if one believes the essentials of driving a car are mechanical in nature and largely traditional in a-badge.

The display will be featured in the upcoming Aila, a collaborative effort between Honda and Sony Horn. As the first-ever sedan from Sony Honda, Aila boasts advanced IT and entertainment features from Sony integrate harmoniously with Honda’s proprietary manufacturing capabilities. Using a significant super-large screen, expect an enhanced interface.

LG Display has built a legacy of innovative technological prowess, one that will continue to shape the future of automotive displays. The company’s Vice Minister claimed, “We will continue to create differentiated customer value based on excellent technology and stable supply capabilities.”
