LG Ditches Quantum Dots for New QNED Evo TVs, Unveils AI-Powered Magic Remote
LG is shaking things up with its 2025 QNED evo TV lineup, ditching quantum dots in favor of a new proprietary technology called Dynamic QNED Color. The South Korean tech giant promises this innovation will deliver vibrant, pure colors while achieving at least 93% coverage of the DCI-P3 color space. The moast anticipated model in the series is the LG QNED9M, which will feature LG’s Zero Connect Box, first introduced with the OLED M series. This allows for wireless 4K viewing and, on the QNED9M, a buttery-smooth 144Hz refresh rate with AMD FreeSync Premium certification for gamers.
Beyond the remarkable display technology, LG is also bringing AI to the forefront with a redesigned Magic Remote. The new remote boasts an AI button that, coupled with Voice ID, personalizes the TV experience based on the user. A quick press accesses TV features, while a long press activates a large language model (LLM) for context-aware, personalized searches.
The 2025 QNED evo series will be powered by LG’s a8 AI processor, with the QNED9M specifically featuring the a9 AI 4K Gen8 processor for enhanced performance. The 9M will also sport an ultra-slim design inspired by LG’s popular C Series, measuring a mere 16.4mm thick.
The new QNED evo lineup will be available in sizes ranging from 40 to 100 inches, though the specific size of the QNED9M remains undisclosed.
While LG’s OLED TVs, like the acclaimed G4 and C4, have dominated the conversation in recent years, the advancements in the 2025 QNED evo series signal LG’s intent to compete fiercely in the LED TV market. With Samsung’s Neo QLEDs and strong contenders from Hisense and TCL, the battle for LED supremacy is heating up.
LG is expected to reveal more details about its 2025 QNED evo series and the AI-powered Magic Remote at CES 2025, with a press conference scheduled for Monday, January 6, 2025.

Dr.Carter: It’s a bold strategy, to say the least. Quantum dots have dominated the LED market for visual vibrancy, so LG betting on somthing new is intriguing. They’ve promised 93% DCI-P3 coverage, which is impressive. We’ll need to see self-reliant testing to truly assess how Dynamic QNED Color performs against established technologies.
NewsDirectory3: The LG QNED9M, with its zero Connect Box and 144Hz refresh rate, seems aimed squarely at gamers. How notable is this focus on the gaming market for LG?
Dr. Carter: It’s a smart move. The gaming demographic is growing and fiercely loyal to brands that deliver a premium experience. Features like the Zero Connect Box for lag-free wireless play and the high refresh rate with AMD FreeSync Premium are exactly what gamers are looking for. LG is clearly trying to carve out a niche within this competitive segment.

NewsDirectory3: LG’s OLED models have garnered significant praise. How do you see the QNED evo series fitting into LG’s overall TV lineup?
Dr. Carter: While OLED continues to set the gold standard for picture quality, QNED offers an attractive alternative at potentially more affordable price points. By investing heavily in QNED technology and AI enhancements, LG is clearly aiming to broaden its appeal and compete aggressively across the entire TV market.
NewsDirectory3: Looking ahead to CES 2025, what are you most interested in seeing from LG’s presentation?
