Liam Lawson’s ⁤trademark aggressive driving style⁤ in Formula 1 remains a talking point, notably after the spanish Grand Prix. Throughout his initial 20 races, and especially during a six-race stint in 2024, Lawson’s elbows-out approach has caught the attention of rivals such as Fernando Alonso and Sergio Perez.

This year, after returning to Racing bulls, Lawson’s aggression led to time penalties in Bahrain for contact with Lance Stroll and Nico ‌Hulkenberg. A collision with Alonso in the Miami Grand Prix sprint race further added to his penalty points, bringing his total to six. He also received a‍ penalty in Jeddah for leaving the track while passing Jack Doohan.

Racing Bulls team boss Laurent Mekies admitted after the Miami race⁢ that Lawson’s aggression needed some adjustment.Mekies acknowledged the team was⁢ “paying a bit of a price for it,” but also ‍viewed it as part of Lawson’s⁣ recovery after challenging weekends.

The Spanish Grand Prix ⁣offered‍ mixed⁢ signals. Lawson tagged Alonso at the start and clipped Oliver Bearman, though he avoided penalties for these incidents. He also ‍engaged in a two-part battle with alex⁤ Albon, resulting ‌in damage to Albon’s car.
