Pamela Anderson has shared her admiration for her Naked Gun co-star Liam Neeson, describing him as “fantastic” and admitting, “You can’t help but fall in love with Liam.” The highly anticipated comedy reboot, featuring the iconic duo, is set to hit Irish cinemas on August 1st, giving audiences a chance to witness their on-screen chemistry firsthand.
Neeson steps into the Shoes of a Comedy Legend
Liam Neeson takes on the lead role of Lt Frank Drebin Jr., a character famously brought to life by the late comedy legend Leslie nielsen. Nielsen originated the role in the 1982 series Police Squad! and the subsequent blockbuster films: The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad! (1988), The Naked Gun 2: The Smell of Fear (1991), and Naked gun 33: The Final Insult (1994). Neeson’s casting marks a notable shift, bringing his own unique gravitas to the beloved, albeit bumbling, detective.
Anderson’s Initial Intimidation and Growing Affection
Anderson, who plays Neeson’s love interest Beth in the new film, revealed in a behind-the-scenes video that the prospect of working with the Ballymena-born actor was initially daunting. She spoke candidly about Neeson’s illustrious career, which spans from theater to critically acclaimed roles in films like Schindler’s List.
“He’s had such an incredible career, starting in theatre and just kind of being part of this acting royalty,” Anderson shared.”So, it was intimidating. I was afraid to meet him. I was literally shaking the first day I came to rehearse our first scene.”
Though, her nerves quickly dissipated. “But once we got going… I mean, he’s such a gentleman. He’s such a sweetheart, and he’s so giving and generous and was so complimentary and supportive,” she added with a smile. ”You can’t help but fall in love with Liam.”
A Strategic Career Move for Anderson
Anderson also shed light on her decision to join the Naked Gun franchise, explaining it as a deliberate step in her career resurgence. After a stint on Broadway and a role in the drama The Last Showgirl, Anderson sought a change of pace.
“I’ve just kind of restarted my career,” she explained.”I did Broadway, and then I did The Last Showgirl, and I thought it would be a nice juxtaposition to do a high comedy after doing drama.”
The opportunity to be part of such a well-loved comedy series was met with genuine excitement. ”The fact that they even thought of me for this was so exciting,” Anderson enthused. “I love the Naked Guns. I thought that they were really funny. They’re just such crazy, silly comedies. And I think the world needs that right now.”
