Jiří Kudrna to Replace Filip Pešán as Head Coach
The Liberec White Tigers have announced a change in leadership, with jiří Kudrna taking over as head coach, replacing Filip Pešán. Kudrna, a longtime friend of Pešán, will be joined by David Kočí, who arrives from Litvínov, as an assistant coach.
According to a team representative, the decision to promote Kudrna reflects the clubS commitment to developing young talent. This is a logical choice. Like the club, it raises and gives a chance to young players who have established themselves in the A-team in recent years.
The representative added, Jirka Kudrna gathered experience alongside successful coaches Augusta with Pešán, knows the local environment well and continues to build on their work.
Kudrna, 48, is taking on his first head coaching role in the top league. He has worked his way up through the Liberec system, coaching various youth levels and spending two years as the head coach of the team’s farm team in Benátky nad Jizerou.
Kočí’s addition is expected to bolster the team’s defense. The moment it was clear that David was available, we offered him an assistant to the main team,
a team representative said.
The Litvínov defensive and the weakening game under his baton was one of the best in the extraleague last season. We beleive that a similar style of game will imprint our defensive ranks,
the representative added. It is indeed speculated that Kočí may bring defenseman Kristaps Zile and Denis Zeman from Litvínov.
Pešán’s departure marks the end of an era for Liberec. He spent 11 seasons as head coach, leading the team to a historic championship, two silver medals, and three regular-season titles.
A team representative acknowledged Pešán’s contributions, stating, Farewell to Filip is not easy for us.He is a coach who is signed under the historically largest achievements of the White Tigers.
The team hopes that a new direction will provide a needed boost after two seasons without a deep playoff run.
I dare say that the mission with which he was returning to Liberec – that is,to rejuvenate a cadre and incorporate players from junior categories – was successful. He raised a few young talents for great international hockey,
the representative said.
Liberec was eliminated in the first round of the playoffs this year by České Budějovice in five games. The team is currently undergoing a notable reconstruction.
