Liberty Bank celebrates 200 Years with Community Donations

Liberty Bank, a pillar in Middletown, Conn., celebrated its 200th anniversary on May 4, marking two centuries of commitment to the communities it serves. As part of the celebration, the bank is increasing its investment in community support, furthering its mission of local engagement and financial assistance.
Founded in 1825,Liberty Bank has a long history of giving back. The Liberty Bank Foundation, established in 1997, has awarded over $21 million in grants to nonprofits across its market area. Employees also actively volunteer, reinforcing the bank’s dedication to community involvement.
To commemorate its bicentennial,Liberty Bank is donating $1,825 to a local organization in each of the 48 towns where it operates a branch,totaling $87,600 in donations. This initiative underscores the bank’s focus on local community support and financial assistance.
“it’s very crucial for Liberty to give back, to invest in the community,” said David Glidden, president and CEO. “We would not be around for two centuries if it weren’t for the people and organizations that have supported us. We are celebrating this milestone anniversary by paying it forward.”
Liberty Bank customers selected the 48 recipient organizations through more than 10,000 votes. For example, the East Longmeadow branch chose to donate to the Ronald McDonald House of Springfield.
“Helping our community is important, and we are so glad that we are able to support the Ronald McDonald House of Springfield,” said Teresa Parker, Liberty Bank’s branch manager in East Longmeadow.
In addition to these donations, the liberty Bank Foundation is donating $250,000 to Make-A-Wish. The bank is also partnering with Hands on Hartford to provide over 200 weekend meal kits for children. Collaborating with the Max Restaurant Group, Liberty Bank will donate 200 Thanksgiving dinner boxes to families in need and build 200 bikes for the Boys & Girls Club of Hartford. Employees recently assembled over 200 birthday boxes for local pantries, ensuring families can celebrate birthdays at home.
“Our celebration is your celebration,” Glidden said. “We are blessed to be in a position where we can help make a difference in our communities. There is no better way to celebrate 200 years than by being community kind.”
