Pasay City, Philippines – Lieutenant General Arthur cordura took the helm of the Philippine Air Force (PAF) on Thursday, vowing to bolster the nation’s territorial defense capabilities.President ferdinand Marcos Jr.presided over the change of command ceremony at Villamor Air Base, where Cordura officially replaced Lieutenant General Stephen Parreño.in his inaugural address, Cordura emphasized the PAF’s crucial role in safeguarding the Philippines’ airspace. “Today,the PAF is on the precipice of achieving something really great,” he stated. “Opportunities present themselves with the government leadership who shares the urgency of the Armed Forces of the Philippines Modernization Program and the dire need to be Territorial Defense ready.”
cordura, a decorated pilot and graduate of the Philippine Military Academy, stressed the importance of seizing these opportunities while also proactively creating new ones for the PAF’s development.
While not planning a complete overhaul, Cordura outlined his vision for the PAF under his leadership. “I intend to ‘tinker’ on the possibility to enculturate a developmental strategy characterized by simplicity but robust in content and arguably sustainable, inclusive in scope, and one that does not depart from the present metrics by which we effectively measure organizational success,” he explained.
This strategy, encapsulated in the phrase “Focus PAF,” will prioritize Mission Essential Tasks and the implementation of an Integrated Air Defense System (IADS).
Cordura’s appointment comes after President Marcos approved the advice of the department of National defense. The new PAF chief, a member of the PMA “Bigkis-Lahi” Class of 1990, brings a wealth of experience to the role. He is a graduate of the PAF Flying School Class of 1992 and has held various leadership positions within the air force.
As the 40th commanding general of the PAF, Cordura is poised to lead the organization into a new era of modernization and enhanced defense capabilities.
