How do you explain continuing to play at an age when most have hung up their boots…
Playing soccer is the most beautiful thing for me, it is true, it is not easy to earn a place on the team, but I enjoy training and playing when it’s my turn, I almost never miss a training session unless it is necessary or by medical order. I am happy playing soccer, that is the daily motivation.
Nicolás Rengifo, also a forward, was recently at U, how do you see his growth?
Yes, nico has grown a lot in every way.Yes, he trained with the first team and that is good for him.We talked about how scoring goals is critically important for him,but more importantly is helping the team win. He also has to prepare for that pressure and understand that the chances he has he has to take advantage of for the good of everyone.

¿Cómo ve el futuro de los 9 en el Perú, ante el inminente retiro de Paolo Guerrero?
Ojalá en un futuro salgan delanteros goleadores, por el momento que se vive los ’9′ son cada vez menos, por los cambios de sistemas y las forma de jugar, pero creo que siempre se necesita especialistas en esa posición.
Con 41 años a cuestas, Hernán Rengifo demuestra que la edad es solo un número al sumar ya dos goles en la temporada actual.
¿Qué podría revelar de su experiencia de jugar junto a Robert Lewandowski?
Lewandowski nunca fue mi suplente. Él siempre destacó desde el primer día,su carrera lo dice todo. Fue un crack. Lewandowski es crack, nació para esto. Todo lo hace fácil.
¿Cree que cumplió con todo lo que te propusiste?
Soñé siempre, algunos sueños los cumplí y otros no, pero lo más lindo de esto es que luché por lograrlos y eso es lo que me deja tranquilo. Seguro tuve momentos buenos y malos, pero creo que tuve más de los buenos.
