Lightning on the Way Out: Apple’s USB-C Takeover Nears Completion with Just 7 Products Left
Apple’s Transition to USB-C: The End of the Lightning Era
New Apple products launched in recent years have gradually switched from Lightning to USB-C interfaces. Whether it’s a newly released charging box from the new AirPods 4 series or the new version of AirPods Max, they all have USB-C interfaces. Along with Apple starting to stop selling the iPhone 13 with the Lightning interface, the switch to USB-C is almost complete.
Apple products and accessories still use the Lightning interface launched 12 years ago, and the styles are diminishing. Some foreign websites have counted the products that are still on sale and still use the Lightning interface. There are only three mobile phones left: iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, and iPhone SE, as well as the Apple First-generation Pencil, the elegant keyboard (Mac), and the elegant slider and smart trackpad.
Rumors indicate that the new iPhone SE with a USB-C interface will be launched next year, while the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus are expected to be released in September next year. The first-generation Apple Pencil may also be discontinued later, and the elegant keyboard, mouse, and trackpad will eventually switch to USB-C interfaces. When these changes happen, with the exception of a small number of old cables and adapters, the Apple Lightning era will officially be over.
What’s Next for Apple?
As Apple continues to phase out the Lightning interface, it’s clear that the company is committed to adopting USB-C as its new standard. This change is likely to bring several benefits, including faster charging speeds and improved compatibility with other devices.
