Residents of a Limerick City suburb expressed frustration and disappointment after a local park suffered damage from food vendors operating during weekend sporting events, according to reports from Live95 News on Wednesday, April 22, 2026.
The incident occurred at Greystones Park on Ennis Road, where council staff initially intervened following the initial damage. However, further harm was done after matches on Sunday when a food truck reportedly took a different route while exiting the park, worsening the condition of the green space.
Councillor Shane Hickey O’Mara, who was contacted by frustrated residents, brought a motion to the council chamber addressing the situation. Speaking to Live95 News, he described the sequence of events as particularly aggravating because the additional damage occurred after tensions had appeared to subside.
It was even worse on the way out. This was after the tensions had been brought down, and everybody felt like, okay, look, there’s a one-off. But the fact that it happened on the way out-

The councillor emphasized that while the community does not oppose food vendors in principle—recognizing their role in enhancing match-day experiences with offerings like burgers and chips—the primary concern centers on protecting the park as a valued community green space where residents walk dogs and children play.
Councillor Hickey O’Mara noted that the council ultimately supported the community’s position, providing reassurance that such incidents would not be repeated on green spaces. He stated that officials had guaranteed they would find an alternative location for food trucks to prevent future damage to parks.
Luckily, the council actually got behind it today, which we really, really appreciate in the community. The fact that they’ve actually given the guarantee that it won’t be let on a green space, again, that they will find an alternative location for food trucks.
