Limerick Water Restrictions: Overnight Measures Announced

Irish Water is appropriate to the people of Limerick to reduce water usage, advising customers in some areas that overnight supply restrictions will be in place this weekend.

Uisce Éireann has advised customers in Oola, Pallasgreen, Bruff, Herbertstown, and surrounding areas that overnight supply restrictions are “required to conserve water and maintain a daytime supply”.

Starting this Friday, August 15, overnight restrictions will be in place in these areas over the course of this weekend from 10pm until 7am each night until Monday, August 18.  

During these times, customers in these areas may experience interruptions to supply, or reduced water pressure. 

Uisce Éireann confirmed that there may be “some short-term discolouration” as water returns to the network each morning.

“In the event of discolouration, running the cold kitchen tap for several minutes will usually restore the water to a clear colour. The water is safe to drink once running clear. If the issue remains unresolved, we encourage customers to contact us directly on 1800 278 278.”

Uisce Éireann’s Water Operations manager, Eoin O’Connell says: “We understand the inconvenience nighttime restrictions can cause to communities; however, given the increased demand, overnight restrictions are essential to maintain a daytime water supply for homes and businesses while we allow reservoir levels time to recover.”

Uisce Éireann are asking Limerick customers to conserve water, where possible, following a “period of high demand”.

“Simple water conservation actions can have a significant impact on driving down demand on the supply,” a spokesperson for the organisation said.

“We are asking customers to conserve water by turning off the tap while brushing your teeth and shaving, which can save up to six litres of water per minute. Keeping a jug of water in the fridge instead of running the cold tap can save 10 litres of water per day. In the garden, we’re asking people to recycle water, such as water used in food preparation or washing up, for watering flowers and lawns.”
