Updated June 10, 2025
Ireland prop Finlay bealham has been named to the British & Irish Lions squad 2025, replacing Scotland’s Zander Fagerson, who withdrew due to a calf injury. The announcement marks a change to the squad before their tour to Australia.
Andy Farrell, head coach, selected Bealham for the 38-player squad. The British & Irish Lions fixture list begins with a match against Argentina in Dublin on June 20.
Farrell acknowledged the unfortunate circumstance for Fagerson. He also noted Bealham’s opportunity to contribute to the team. “It’s tough on Zander to miss out so close to the tour, but now Finlay gets an opportunity to come in and add to the group,” Farrell said.”This is unfortunately part and parcel of the game, so we always have to be prepared for that.”
Jamie George and Asher Opoku-fordjour where also called up for the pre-tour training camp in Portugal, due to unavailability of players from Bath, Leicester and Leinster.
The initial British & Irish Lions squad unveiling occurred May 8 in London. It featured 13 players from England, 15 from Ireland, eight from Scotland, and two from Wales. The squad consists of 21 forwards and 17 backs. Maro Itoje will be the British & Irish Lions captain.
Following the match against Argentina, the British & Irish Lions squad will travel to Australia. Their tour begins against the Western Force in Perth on June 28.

Farrell was appointed head coach in January 2024. In January 2025, David Nucifora joined as General Manager, Performance. Aled Walters will serve as Head of Athletic Performance, and Vinny Hammond as Head of Analysis.
After the Six Nations 2025, Farrell added assistant coaches Richard Wigglesworth, Simon Easterby, John Fogarty, Andrew Goodman, and John Dalziel. Johnny Sexton, a Lions player in 2013 and 2017, was later added to the coaching roster.
