Injury Sidelines Zander Fagerson; Bealham Joins Lions Tour to Australia

Zander Fagerson,the Scottish tight-head prop,will miss the British & Irish Lions tour due to a calf injury. Ireland’s Finlay Bealham will take his place on the squad, the Lions announced.

The announcement precedes the team’s first training camp in Portugal. Sale Sharks prop Asher Opoku-Fordjour and veteran Jamie George will also attend the Portugal camp, providing cover at positions where head coach Andy Farrell currently has limited options.
Fagerson’s injury surfaced amid concerns about Leinster’s Tadhg Furlong. Will Stuart remains with Bath ahead of the Premiership final on June 14.Leinster hookers Dan Sheehan and Ronan Kelleher are also unavailable until after the URC final against the Bulls, leaving Luke Cowan-Dickie as the only hooker available for the initial training.
“It’s tough on Zander to miss out so close to the Tour, but now Finlay gets an prospect to come in and add to the group,” Farrell said. “This is unfortunately part and parcel of the game, so we always have to be prepared for that. But it’s great to be finally at the stage where we can get onto the training ground and get to work with thes players.”
The Lions will face Argentina at Aviva Stadium in Dublin on June 20. with players involved in domestic league finals unavailable, Farrell may need to select players who where not initially part of the squad.
