What visitors are saying

“My online subscription, which I rarely read, renewed this week at about double last year’s rate ($104). No advance notice email for price increase. As you’ve read on here, cancelling was very difficult. When I finally got it cancelled, I was told there’d be no refund. However, if I wanted to stay on as a customer they’d put in for a refund of the difference of new rate versus last year’s price. Hoping that smaller refund actually happens. Make sure you cancel before it auto-renews!”

“The papers come through the US mail now. Didn't get a paper for 4 weeks. Called to cancel but they never cancelled it. Called back to cancel it again and they didn't cancel it. Took the money from my checking account and won't refund it. Thieves!”

— Lynda Losen · ★☆☆☆☆

“I don't live in Texas and have never had anything to do with this paper, website, etc. Yet for some reason, they spam the hell out of me. There's no way to unsubscribe either. No idea how they got my email address.”

— Jef Henninger · ★☆☆☆☆

“We got a call in August saying if we signed up for the paper that we would receive a $200 Walmart card. We still have not received it and it is now November. I have called every week since we signed up asking about the card and they say the same thing every time that it will take 24 to 48 hours and they will process it and send a card. They have said this every week since the time we signed up. I feel like all we're getting is the run around. I will not be renewing my paper”

“August 2016 the door-to-door guy comes by trying to get us to take the paper.... $25 for 8 weeks. We say, "No thanks, we get our news online." He says "C'mon, if I get one more I get a bonus. I'll give it to you for $15 for 8 weeks." We say, "Ok, I guess we might use the coupons." So after about 10 weeks they start calling asking us to extend our subscription. We say "No, didn't read it, don't want it. Stop calling." They call every day, sometimes twice a day for at least 6 weeks. Pure harassment. Then, we get a letter in the mail saying we owe them $32.50. Sent them back a nice letter saying ”

— Steve McClymont · ★☆☆☆☆

“Don’t subscribe!! If you ever decide you want to cancel, it’s very difficult. They don’t answer the phone, emails or the online chat! Once you are able to finally cancel, they call daily trying to get you to resubscribe. I’ve never had a worse experience with a company.”

— Linda Fairbairn · ★☆☆☆☆

“I paid $165.99 in Jan. 2018 which was a mistake via the guy selling the paper door to door. This was a 1 year subscription every day. (Not what I wanted). I am suppose to pay $4.99/ mo. for Wed. & Sun. He says he accidentally hit the wrong button on his phone and since that day I have not been able to get reimbursed what they owe me. I've called 5 times and spent an average of 1.5 hours on the phone each time. I spoke to several "supervisors" and been promised a correction made. NOTHING has happen. In fact they say I owe them $ to renew. I don't even get a paper. What should I do???”

— Shelly DeWinne · ★☆☆☆☆

“I called to cancel my subscription because this paper is useless. I have since been called five times when I made it clear the second time that there was absolutely nothing the Star Telegram could do to keep me as a customer. It has now reached the point of harassment and I hope that someone from the Star Telegram looks at these reviews because if I get one more call I will be filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau.”

— Sylvia Harris · ★☆☆☆☆

“If I could give negative stars I would. My elderly parents subscribed to the paper 8-23-22 and were told home delivery would begin 8-26-22. It is now 9-15-22 and they have yet to receive a single paper. "Customer service" is a joke. They read their script saying the issue will be escalated until resolved. Conversations with 6 supervisors has been useless as well. One actually suggested one of my parents elderly neighbors in their senior living center is stealing their paper, even though they admit they have not routed it properly. Unbelievable incompetence.”

— Paisley Ratliff · ★☆☆☆☆

“What is wrong with these people? Bought 6 months through Groupon. That expired and I no longer wanted subscription so I didn't renew. Numerous nasty calls to renew, still said no. Now a collection agency calls threatening me. Beware of this newspaper gimmick. Sure not a way to get subscribers.”
