he Daily Eastern News is an independent daily student publication at Eastern Illinois University with a circulation of roughly 5,000. We cover the campus and the community at Eastern with students, staff, faculty and town residents as our audience. Though the DEN is published by students at Eastern, it is independent of the administration at Eastern and does not represent or promote the official views of the administration. We take our motto, “Tell the truth and don’t be afraid,” from a chapel talk given by Eastern President Livingston C. Lord, and we strive to uphold that in our reporting and in our opinion pieces.
