Lithuania Braces for Continued Cold and Snow

Lithuania is experiencing a period of cold and damp weather, with continued snowfall expected throughout the week. Temperatures are expected to remain low, particularly in the northern parts of the country, while winds will be moderate to breezy.

According to forecasts, eastern and southeastern winds will be moderate, reaching speeds of 6–11 m/s and slightly stronger – 12–14 m/s – along the coastal areas. Daytime temperatures will be highest in southern Lithuania and along the coast, around 8–10 degrees Celsius. However, the north of the country will be significantly colder, with temperatures expected to drop to 11–14 degrees Celsius below zero. Today, conditions are expected to be mostly cloudy.

Overnight from Tuesday to Wednesday, cloud cover will increase, with scattered snowfall across most of the country. Southwestern Lithuania may see slightly heavier accumulations. Gusty winds, blowing from the southeast at 7–12 m/s, are also anticipated. Nighttime temperatures will be slightly milder, generally ranging from 10–15 degrees Celsius below zero, though some areas could see temperatures plummet to 16–20 degrees Celsius below zero.

The snowfall is expected to continue across nearly all of Lithuania on Wednesday, although the amounts will be relatively small. Winds will shift to southerly directions, blowing at 6–11 m/s, with occasional gusts. Daytime temperatures will range from 5–10 degrees Celsius below zero, and 2–4 degrees Celsius below zero along the coast.

Looking ahead, the weather forecast for Lithuania indicates extremely cold conditions over the next few days, with temperatures ranging from -9°C to -6°C. Snow is expected from Tuesday through Thursday. Wind speeds are expected to be breezy, averaging around 17 km/h. A warming trend is anticipated on Thursday, with temperatures reaching -3°C and a 77% chance of light showers.

The 10-day forecast for Vilnius shows a mix of cloudy and sunny conditions. Today in Vilnius, the forecast is for mostly cloudy skies with a high of 18°C and a low of -1°C, with a 66% chance of snow. Wednesday is expected to be cloudy with a high of 21°C and a low of 13°C, with a 24% chance of rain. Temperatures are expected to gradually increase over the weekend, reaching a high of 29°C on Saturday.

Residents are advised to take precautions against the cold and icy conditions, including dressing warmly and being mindful of slippery surfaces. The moderate to strong winds may also create hazardous conditions, particularly along the coast.
