Lithuania’s Minister of Economy and Innovation, Edvinas Grikšas, arrived in Canada this week to strengthen bilateral economic ties and promote strategic partnership between the two nations during his first official visit as minister.

The visit, which took place in late April 2026, included meetings with Canadian International Trade Minister Maninder Sidhu and focused on deepening cooperation in trade, investment, and technology sectors. Minister Grikšas emphasized Lithuania’s openness to Canadian businesses and highlighted existing synergies between the two countries’ economies.

Lithuania has pursued economic resilience through diversification following years of economic coercion from Russia and China. As noted in recent analyses, the Baltic state reduced its dependence on any single market by expanding trade partnerships across Europe, North America, and Asia, while simultaneously investing in defence capabilities and high-tech industries.

The Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) between Canada and the European Union has facilitated market access for Lithuanian goods and services in Canada since 2017. Officials from both countries have acknowledged the agreement’s role in supporting mutually beneficial trade relations, with Lithuanian products gaining increased presence in Canadian markets under the framework.
