Live Blackjack: The New Hit Trend at Online Casinos

May 22, 2024 Michael Thompson - Managing Editor Entertainment

Blackjack is one of the most recognizable and popular casino games ever. In the several centuries that blackjack has been around, gamblers have been debating strategy, the lack of it, the ethics of counting cards, and more. There is no denying that the game has had a huge impact on the way we gamble.

All of this made it a huge surprise that blackjack was not more popular at online casinos. It seems that people prefer face-to-face blackjack, rather than virtual blackjack with an AI dealer. For a while, it seemed like blackjack would never get the chance to shine online. However, that all changed recently.

The Emergence of Livestreaming

In the 2010s, livestreaming became a major success. Video-hosting platforms like YouTube made it possible to create livestreams and let fans interact in real time with content creators. Twitch also launched around this time, elevating streaming further in popularity. The effects of livestreaming were huge, and online casinos did not let the chance slip by.

Many online casinos began launching their “live” version around this time. A live casino is basically a gambling option that lets players interact with living, human dealers, who are streaming themselves in real time. With that, we finally got a version of blackjack that could be a success online. The new blackjack live option has been a major success, and a lot of people are flocking to live casinos in order to give blackjack a go.

The Success of Live Blackjack

There are plenty of reasons for why live blackjack is much more successful than its virtual counterpart. For one, many people prefer to look at a dealer face-to-face, whenever they play the game. The human dealer gives most gamblers a sense of peace, as well as an understanding that nothing weird is going on behind the scenes.

Another reason is that people, inherently, seem to have a mistrust for artificial intelligence. Plenty of scientists have noticed a general distrust of AI among the population, which can be seen to this day. In other words, plenty of people dislike virtual blackjack, simply because there is an AI dealer. Live blackjack, on the other hand, features a human dealer, playing in real time.

Finally, live blackjack also captures that sense of community and belonging that you might find at a land-based casino. Though a screen away, the dealer does behave as if they are in the room with the players, dealing cards and chit chatting in between games.

Why Blackjack is a Hit?

The question some may have is why blackjack is such a hit in the first place? Well, apart from the fact that blackjack is one of the oldest casino games that we still play today, there is also the fact that blackjack has the best player odds. With a house edge of only 1.5%, or lower, players are better off playing blackjack than any other game at a casino. No wonder it is such a major hit.
