Liverpool Stumble at Anfield as Fulham Earn Thrilling draw
Liverpool lucky to escape with a point against a spirited Fulham side, falling further behind their rivals in the title race.
NewsDirect3.com spoke with football analyst John Smith regarding Liverpool’s 2-2 draw with Fulham at Anfield.
ND3: John, what were your thoughts on Liverpool’s performance tonight?
JS: I think Liverpool will be relieved to have escaped with a point. It was a really poor performance, especially considering they were playing at home. Fulham were always in the game and deserved their draw.
ND3: the red card to Andy Robertson early on obviously didn’t help. How much of an impact did that have on Liverpool’s gameplan?
JS: It certainly didn’t help, but Liverpool still had enough quality to win the game. They lacked discipline and concentration throughout the match. Fulham were well-organised and took advantage of Liverpool’s vulnerabilities.
ND3: Diogo Jota came off the bench and scored a late equaliser. Do you think this was a deserved point for Liverpool?
JS: While Jota’s goal salvaged a point, I don’t believe they deserved it.Fulham played with more passion and were the better team on the night. Liverpool need to find some consistency if they want to challenge for the title.
ND3: This is Liverpool’s second draw at Anfield in their last two home games. Is there a cause for concern amongst Liverpool fans?
JS: Certainly. They need to rediscover their winning mentality at home. Teams are coming to anfield without fear and Liverpool need to assert themselves.
