Liverpool have completed the signing of 18-year-old goalkeeper Lucca Brughmans from Belgian side Genk in a transfer deal worth up to £30 million including add-ons. The towering 6ft 7in Belgian youth international has agreed to a six-year contract with the Merseyside club.

The deal materialised through the scouting efforts of Liverpool’s global talent department, which is led by Matt Newberry.

Brughmans has established himself firmly in Belgium, starting all four of Genk’s matches this season while also representing his country at the youth international level.

His arrival adds to a wave of teenage talent recruited by Liverpool’s global talent team over the past year. Earlier this year, the club brought in Senegalese centre-back Mor Talla N’diaye and Austrian centre-back Ifeanyi Ndukwe after both teenagers impressed at the U17 World Cup in Qatar. Hungarian goalkeeper Armin Pecsi and Colombian midfielder Samuel Martinez have also arrived during the last 12 months, with Pecsi currently spending the season on loan at German side TSV Hartberg.
