Liverpool have signed winger Federico Chiesa from Juventus on a long-term deal

English Premier League rivals Liverpool announced on Thursday that they have signed winger Federico Chiesa from Juventus on a long-term deal.

Chiesa suffered a serious knee injury in 2022 and missed 10 months, before returning last season and scoring 10 goals and providing three assists in 37 matches in all competitions with Juventus.

Juventus said Chiesa (26), whose contract with the Italian side expires in 2025, completed the deal for 12 million euros ($13.30 million) in addition to 3 million euros in possible additional bonuses.

The English club said in a statement: “Liverpool have reached an agreement with Juventus to sign Federico Chiesa.”

For his part, Chiesa told Liverpool’s website: “I’m very happy to be a Liverpool player.”

He added: “When (sporting director) Richard Hughes approached me and said, ‘Would you like to join Liverpool?’ And then the coach (Arn Slott) contacted me, I immediately said yes because I know the history of this club and I know what it represents to its fans.”

The Italy winger moved to Juventus on loan from Fiorentina for the 2020-2021 season before joining the Turin-based side permanently in 2022, scoring 32 goals in 131 matches.

Chiesa scored seven goals in 51 international matches with Italy and was part of the team that won the European Championship in 2020.

The Italian becomes the English club’s second summer transfer signing after Georgia’s first-choice goalkeeper Georgi Mamardashvili from Spain’s Valencia, who will move to Anfield at the start of next season.
