Liverpool on High Alert: Reds Prepare to Splash £83m on Electrifying Sporting Sensation

November 7, 2024 Catherine Williams - Chief Editor Sports

Amidst the attention of the football world, there are reports that Liverpool are interested in Sporting Lisbon‘s beautiful young talent. It comes as manager Ruben Amorim prepares to move to Manchester United following Sporting’s impressive 4-1 win against Manchester City.

It was 17-year-old Geovanny Quenda who shone in that crucial game, and his performance has sparked transfer rumors among England’s top clubs. According to TBR Football’s Graeme Bailey, Liverpool and Arsenal are interested in the teenage winger, but Sporting Lisbon are determined not to let go of their most promising player.

To exclude potential buyers, the Lisbon club have set Quenda’s release clause at a staggering €100m (£83m) and have made it clear that they will not consider moving him unless this amount is met. There is. Quenda has impressed in his breakthrough season, scoring two goals and providing a deft assist for Victor Goqueres in a resounding win against City.

Additional stats show he won five of his seven duels on the night, showing his growing ability on the pitch (Sofascore). Bernardo Silva, who captained the City side in that match, praised Quenda and hinted that he could be part of the Portugal national team in the future (A Bora).

The decision to impose such a large release clause shows the high regard he holds within the club. However, the price tag is significant for a player who is still developing his skills at senior level. Amorim recognized Quenda’s potential, describing him as a “very talented kid” but stressed that he needs to improve his finishing and decision-making (TBR Football).

Furthermore, Liverpool already have a promising right winger in Ben Doak, so they may not need to make a big investment in Quenda in the short term. The 17-year-old is unlikely to head to Anfield any time soon, but he is certainly one to keep an eye on as the season progresses.
