Liverpool has officially signed Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen,the Premier League champions announced Friday. The move for the Netherlands international, a highly sought-after full-back, comes after Trent Alexander-Arnold’s confirmed departure to Real Madrid.
Frimpong’s contract included a clause allowing him to leave for €35 million ($39.2 million). the transfer is slated for completion after June 1,with the fee payable in three annual installments. Alexander-Arnold, whose contract was nearing expiration, is joining Real Madrid for a reported €10 million ($11.3 million) ahead of the Club World Cup.
While manny see Frimpong as a direct replacement for Alexander-Arnold, sources indicate that Liverpool’s coach, Arne Slot, envisions him as a versatile player capable of filling in for Mohamed Salah on the right flank during the African Cup of Nations.

“It went quite easy,” Frimpong said regarding the transfer talks. “Liverpool came and said they had interest, and obviously for me it was a no-brainer… Liverpool fans, I’m going to give my all, my energy, my work-rate and hopefully we can win together.”
Liverpool has been tracking Frimpong, a versatile player, for over a decade, even attempting to bring him into their academy before he joined Manchester City. Having spent nine years at Manchester City’s youth setup before moving to Celtic and then Leverkusen, Frimpong qualifies as a home-grown player in england.
His connections to Liverpool also include Dutch coach Arne Slot and international teammates Ryan Gravenberch, Cody Gakpo, and Virgil van Dijk. Frimpong played a crucial role in Leverkusen’s historic season, contributing to their Bundesliga title and DFB-Pokal victory, and also their Europa League final appearance.
