Lizzo Announces New Album “Bitch,” Set for June 5 Release
Grammy-winning artist Lizzo has announced her first full-length album in four years, titled Bitch, set for release on June 5 through Nice Life/Atlantic Records. The album’s title track, which interpolates Meredith Brooks’ 1997 hit of the same name, will premiere on May 1 alongside a music video.
The 12-song project marks a shift from Lizzo’s previously teased album, Love in Real Life, which has yet to be released. The new album follows the March release of her single “Don’t Make Me Love U” and represents her first studio effort since 2022’s Special, which debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200.
Reclaiming the Word “Bitch” as Empowerment
In a statement accompanying the album’s announcement, Lizzo framed the title as an act of reclamation. “Reclaiming the word Bitch is power—it’s taking a label once used to diminish women and turning it into a declaration of confidence and unapologetic self-love,” she said. She cited influential women in music, including Meredith Brooks and Missy Elliott, who have used the term in empowering ways.
“So many incredible women in music have used the word for positivity like Meredith Brooks and Missy Elliott. It was only fitting to name my album Bitch because it has become my favorite word when using it on my own terms and because I am 100% that bitch!”

The album’s title also references her 2019 breakthrough single “Truth Hurts,” where she famously declared, “I’m 100% that bitch.” The cover art for Bitch was unveiled alongside the announcement.

The book will include a QR code linking to an original song written for the project.
Lizzo will also portray legendary musician Sister Rosetta Tharpe in the upcoming Amazon MGM Studios film Rosetta.
In recent months, Lizzo has performed at intimate residencies at the Blue Note in New York and Los Angeles, showcasing her flute skills, and headlined the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo in early March. She also appeared on Saturday Night Live in April 2025 to promote Love in Real Life, though that album remains unreleased.
