UVIÉU, March 7 – Teh government of Asturias is significantly enhancing its commitment too equality in education through the expansion of the coeducastur program and the establishment of a dedicated training school.
Coeducastur Program Extended to More Primary Schools
The vice President of the Government, Gimena Llamedo, announced that the Asturian government has chosen to focus this year’s March 8 activities on coeducation, emphasizing that it “nun ye una opción, sinón que ye la única vacuna contra la desigualdá y contra la máxima espresión de la mesma que ye la violencia machista” (is not an option, but it is the only vaccine against inequality and against the maximum expression of it, which is sexist violence). As an inevitable result, the Coeducastur program will extend to 80 new primary centers.
Llamedo further explained the critical role of equality in preventing violence:
This translates to: For other deaths from diseases there is research, there are vaccines, for women murdered by gender violence the only vaccine that exists is to continue working on equality, to do it from the earliest ages and thus inoculate the damages that machismo, the consequences of machismo. That is why we are firmly committed to advancing in equality from the stages of zero to three.
The initial call for implementing Coeducastur was directed to fifty schools. However, the Executive decided to broaden its scope due to the high level of interest from various centers. We are going to incorporate all those who want to join this initiative, a transforming project that bets on a society in equality).
With this expansion, the program will reach over 800 teachers. Specifically, 858 teachers across 80 centers will benefit, demonstrating ”el compromisu que tien esti gobiernu cola coeducación y por tantu cola igualdá” (the commitment that this government has to coeducation and therefore to equality).
Launch of the School of Trainers in Coeducation
In addition to expanding the equality in education program, the Government has also agreed to launch the School of Trainers in Coeducation. This school will offer intensive training during a week in July, providing participants with specialized education.
The goal is to have a team capable of extending the impact of the Coeducastur program and consolidating its implementation in the educational system.
Theme for International Women’s Day
The theme for this year’s March 8 is “La igualdá d’una vegada por toes” (Equality once and for all). According to Llamedo, this theme reflects two intentions:
This means: On the one hand, it is true that we are advancing in equality, but it is also true that we must continue advancing towards real equality and do so with a firmer step, if possible, and with greater intensity. And also this equality once and for all, for all women, in recognition of all the women who promoted improvements in equality, of all Asturian women. And with special attention to women and girls of younger ages.
