Marie Museum, this intimate and thought-provoking play delves into the complexities of modern relationships, offering audiences a relatable and emotionally resonant experience.
A Playful exploration of a Serious Subject
Written and directed by Emma L.R. Hogg, Love Is Not a Jellyfish isn’t your typical romance. the play cleverly uses the fascinating biology of the immortal jellyfish – capable of reverting to an earlier life stage when damaged – as a metaphor for the desire for a “do-over” in love. But as the title suggests, love doesn’t quite work that way.
Hogg’s writing is described as clever and playful, and the production boasts a “simple, impactful set and small, first-rate cast.” Alexa rose Vitale shines as Lilly, and Jacob maybe embodies danny, bringing depth and nuance to their roles. The play promises a captivating evening of theater, exploring difficult questions with honesty and heart.
What’s Love Is Not a Jellyfish About?
The story centers around Lilly and Danny, who initially found love in an unexpected place – a grocery store. Six years later, their relationship is fractured by a betrayal. Danny’s infidelity has created a chasm between them, symbolized by a locked door. Now, Lilly is grappling with uncertainty, questioning everything she once believed about love and her future with Danny.
As she searches for answers, Lilly turns to the past and seeks the counsel of a freind, only to find herself facing even more questions. The play doesn’t offer easy answers, rather prompting audiences to consider: can a broken relationship be truly fixed? And, perhaps more importantly, shoudl it be?
