Locked Out: Organizers Spark Outrage by Banning Viewers from Anti-Discrimination Meeting on Facebook Live
Student-Community Exchange Meeting Postponed in Mymensingh Amid Controversy
A student-community exchange meeting scheduled to take place in Mymensingh on Friday, September 13, has been postponed due to opposition from local coordinators of the student anti-discrimination movement.
The event was initially planned to be held at the city’s Circuit House ground at 3 pm, with central coordinators from Dhaka in attendance. However, a dispute arose between local coordinators and those from Dhaka, leading to the postponement.
The controversy began when a group of local coordinators took to Facebook to urge students not to attend the exchange meeting, citing concerns over the involvement of certain individuals from Dhaka. Meanwhile, the central coordinators had set a time to leave Mymensingh by 10 am on Friday.
Gokul Sutradhar, a coordinator of the student anti-discrimination movement in Mymensingh, expressed concerns over the involvement of certain individuals from Dhaka, stating that they had not discussed anything with local coordinators and were not allowed to hold any programs.
Another coordinator, Ali Hossain, echoed similar sentiments, stating that the Dhaka coordinators had prepared to hold an exchange meeting without consulting local coordinators. He emphasized that the Mymensingh students were not involved in the arrangement.
Jahangir Alam, a coordinator of the student anti-discrimination movement from Dhaka, confirmed that the exchange meeting had been postponed due to the ongoing situation. He claimed that the work was being done in collaboration with Mymensingh coordinators, despite the controversy.
