Lo’eau LaBonta Becomes Oldest Player to Debut for USWNT

Kansas City current captain Lo’eau LaBonta, a seasoned NWSL midfielder, achieved a milestone Saturday, becoming the oldest player to debut for the United States women’s national team.at 32 years,74 days,LaBonta entered the USWNT’s 3-0 victory against China in the 70th minute.
LaBonta’s decade-long professional career in the NWSL finally culminated in a USWNT call-up earlier this month.Her performance with the Current, including three goals in 10 games this season, solidified her place.

Emma Hayes, USWNT head coach, highlighted LaBonta’s dedication.”She was a player who didn’t give up on herself, and she also made sure her performances remained high, even when she didn’t get the shout for the national team,” Hayes said. She added that LaBonta’s maturity and confidence were evident during the game.
you have to have a short-term memory, whether it’s wins or losses. And when there’s a loss, you let it sink in, but you learn from it, and you move on. And that’s what I’ve done with every obstacle in my life. Previously, McCall Zerboni held the record for the oldest USWNT debut, set in 2017 just before her 31st birthday. LaBonta’s journey to the national team includes participation in U.S. youth national teams starting in 2007.
LaBonta also shared her excitement about the call-up: “It’s a dream come true…I’ve had this dream for over 20 years now.”
