Logan Taylor: From Adversity to Leadership in UH Football
Logan Taylor’s Journey at UH
Logan Taylor joined the University of Hawai’i (UH) football team in 2019 after a year at El Camino College. His initial years at UH were challenging. In 2020, he played as a reserve defensive back and contributed on special teams. An injury sidelined him for most of the 2021 season.
Taylor reflected on his struggles, stating, “Those first few years, they were rough. But adversity led me to grow.” His experiences shaped him into a defensive and spiritual leader by 2022.
In 2022, Taylor had a standout season. He played in all 13 games, leading the team with 85 tackles, including 49 solo tackles and four tackles for loss. He recorded six straight games with double-digit tackles, a first for UH in 21 years.
After this breakout season, Taylor earned the title of team captain for 2023. He expressed pride in this role, saying, “Being a team captain is a great privilege. I strive to be a leader and a good influence.”
The 2023 season began well for Taylor. He made 21 tackles in the first three games. Unfortunately, he tore his ACL in the third game against Albany, ending his season prematurely.
Taylor described the injury as frustrating yet enlightening, stating he learned more about himself and grew closer to God during his recovery. He stepped up as a mentor during this time.
His rehabilitation went well, and Taylor returned for his final season in 2024. He has played all 13 games this season, expressing gratitude for the experience: “These five years have been the greatest blessing of my life.”
Taylor’s contributions, both on and off the field, made him a candidate for the Jason Witten Collegiate Man of the Year Award. He remains proud to be part of the UH Warrior family.
