The Big Stick Surfing Association’s annual vintage longboard contest, Logjam!, returns to Pleasure Point in Santa Cruz this weekend, April 25–26, 2026, continuing its legacy as the longest-running classic longboard surfing contest in the world.

Logjam! features over 100 competitors ranging in age from 7 to 70+ from across California, all riding pre-1970 longboards weighing 20 pounds or more without leashes, adhering to the event’s “old board, no cords” tradition.

The annual event is an official fixture of the California Coalition of Surf Clubs and draws participants and spectators from throughout the state, celebrated for its world-class surfing, authentic atmosphere, and deep roots in surf culture.

“Logjam has become iconic in the longboarding community,” said David Harnish, president of the Big Stick Surfing Association. “It draws top surfers from around the country to Pleasure Point, a classic point break. The last full weekend in April — Logjam’s traditional date — often features gorgeous weather and excellent waves. We really enjoy hosting this contest.”

Beyond the competition, Logjam! includes local vendors, surf rock music, and a raffle offering custom boards from respected shapers, wetsuits, sunglasses, and surf merchandise. Over the years, the raffle has raised more than $180,000 for local non-profits and the Big Stick Surfing Association Scholarship Fund.

The event has garnered media attention from outlets including the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, San Francisco Chronicle, and Switzerland’s largest newspaper, underscoring its broad appeal beyond regional surf circles.

Logjam! remains a cornerstone of California’s surfing calendar, combining competitive integrity with community spirit and a commitment to preserving the heritage of longboard surfing.
