Lois Jean Miller Gunya passes away at 97 in Kansas City

Lois Jean Miller Gunya, 97, from Mission, Kansas, passed away on September 12, 2026, at Kansas City Hospice House surrounded by family. Born in St. Petersburg, Florida, to Alma and Ridley Miller, she lived in Ocala, Florida, until 2016 when she moved to Mission, Kansas, to be close to her family after her dementia diagnosis.

Family Background and Survivors

Before her passing, Gunya lost her parents Alma and Ridley Miller, her brothers George and Allen, and her sons Tim and Steve, alongside various extended family members including nieces and nephews. Surviving her are her daughter Lisa and son Kevin, alongside grandsons Daniel, Andrew, and Charles, granddaughter Ellyn, and a wide circle of friends, nieces, and nephews.

Daily Routines and Interests

Lois was an avid reader, loved to listen to music, and enjoyed her daily routine of ice cream and coffee. She was a Florida State Seminole (her alma mater) fan as well as a KU Jayhawks fan.

Celebration of Life and Memorial Arrangements

Lois’ Celebration of Life will be an ice cream party. The gathering takes place on Saturday, October 24, 2026, between 2 and 4 pm at Shawnee Mission West High School, located at 8800 W. 85th St., OP, KS.

Furthermore, they wish to share their deep thanks and appreciation with the team at KC Hospice House, whose efforts ensured our mother experienced comfort and peace throughout her final weeks. The care and concern for our mom and of us as a family is much appreciated.
