Vasiliy Lomachenko, the highly decorated Ukrainian boxing champion, has announced his retirement from the sport at age 37. Lomachenko leaves behind a legacy defined by exceptional skill and numerous accolades.
Before turning professional, Lomachenko dominated the amateur ranks, capturing Olympic gold medals at the 2008 Beijing and 2012 London games.His amateur record stands at an astounding 396 wins with only a single defeat.
Lomachenko transitioned to professional boxing in 2013 and quickly made his mark. He became a three-weight world champion in just 12 fights, a feat he shares with Kosei Tanaka. His speed, footwork, and combination punching made him one of the most technically gifted fighters of his generation.
“I am thankful that, as my career comes to an end, I have generated clarity about the direction a person must take in order to achieve true victory,” Lomachenko said in a social media video.
