A house fire in the Stonebridge area of Brent, north-west London, has claimed the lives of four people.The Metropolitan Police identified the victims as Nusrat Usman, 43, and her children Maryam Mikaiel, 15, Musa Usman, 8, and Raees Usman, 4. The tragic incident,which gutted two homes on Tillett Close,occurred early Saturday.
A 13-year-old girl from the same family is in critical condition,while a 71-year-old woman,also a relative,has been discharged from the hospital after receiving treatment for injuries sustained in the fire. Authorities have arrested a 41-year-old man in connection with the incident; he remained in custody as of Sunday afternoon. The cause of the Stonebridge fire remains under investigation.
The community is in mourning, with neighbors leaving floral tributes and a teddy bear near the scene. Residents described the family as being of Pakistani origin and long-time residents of Tillett Close. Firefighters rescued the mother and one of her children from the second floor; though, air ambulance personnel pronounced them dead at the scene.
