Lopez’s Barcelona Comeback Cut Short: Star Player Sidelined Again Just Three Weeks After Return
Barcelona’s Fermin López Sidelined with Thigh Injury
Barcelona, the Spanish first division leaders, are facing a setback after midfielder Fermin López suffered a fresh muscle injury in his right thigh during training on Tuesday.
López, 21, who was part of Spain’s squad that won the European Championships in July and won a gold medal with the Under-23 team at the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics, previously injured his left hamstring muscle in September.
According to Barcelona, López will be sidelined for around three weeks. He has scored 11 goals and provided one assist in 45 appearances for the Catalan side.
Injuries Mounting for Barcelona
Barcelona are already missing the efforts of newcomer Dani Olmo, who will be out for up to five weeks with a right hamstring muscle injury, and defender Ronaldo, in addition to midfield teammates Gabi, Frenkie de Jong, and Marc Bernal, as well as Araujo and Andreas Christensen.
Despite the injuries, Barcelona have enjoyed a perfect start to the season under new coach Hansi Flick, winning all five matches played and sitting top of the league standings, four points ahead of their rivals, defending champions Real Madrid. Barcelona will host France’s Monaco in the first match of the Champions League on Thursday.
