Los angeles FC secures Club World Cup Berth with Extra-Time Win
Denis Bouanga’s late heroics propelled Los Angeles FC to a FIFA Club World Cup berth,securing a 2-1 victory over Club America in extra time.the Club World Cup qualification earns LAFC almost $10 million.
Igor Jesus’s header at the end of regulation canceled out brian Rodriguez’s penalty, sending the match into extra time. Bouanga then sealed the win, joining the Seattle Sounders and Inter Miami as the MLS representatives in the expanded Club World Cup.
LAFC will compete in Group D alongside Chelsea, Flamengo and Esperance Sportive de Tunis. the Club World Cup presents a meaningful chance for the Black and Gold to showcase their talent on a global stage.
The first half saw both teams cautiously feeling each other out. A foul by Marco Delgado on Erick Sanchez led to a penalty for Club America,converted by Rodriguez. LAFC responded with offensive substitutions, resulting in Igor Jesus’s equalizer from a Bouanga corner kick in the 89th minute.
LAFC continued their attacking pressure in extra time, outshooting Club America 19-9. They where also the only team to score from open play.
LAFC replaces Club Leon,who were removed from the Club World Cup due to multi-club ownership issues. The tournament begins June 14, with LAFC facing Chelsea on June 16. A special transfer window will open from June 1-10 to allow participating teams to strengthen their squads.
This marks a groundbreaking moment for LAFC, a club founded in 2018. They will now compete against historic clubs like Chelsea on the global stage.
