Lou Llobell discusses Gaal Dornick’s journey in the upcoming season of Foundation, hinting at a more complex and assertive character grappling with leadership and the legacy of Hari Seldon. As the series expands,Gaal’s role becomes increasingly pivotal, and llobell reveals a engaging evolution for her character.

Gaal’s New Home and the Second Foundation

Season three finds Gaal amidst the second Foundation, a secret association crucial to Hari Seldon’s grand plan. The season begins with a significant time jump, showing an older Hari Seldon and a shift in leadership within the Foundation. This new environment is profoundly impactful for Gaal.

“In the third season, we see the second fund – at the end of the second season, we have begun secret – in the change of management,” the article notes. Gaal,a gifted psychic, finds herself on a planet populated by others like her,a revelation that profoundly alters her sense of self.

“She really opens herself more… These people are like her. She doesn’t feel so left. thay have a similarity. She’s with her people, and there’s something that makes her feel comfortable and let her open,” Llobell explained. This sense of belonging allows Gaal to embrace her abilities and step into a leadership role.

A Leader Forged in Understanding

Gaal’s leadership style is described as inclusive and respectful. She prioritizes the autonomy of those around her, fostering an environment of trust and collaboration.

“I think she is listening to her people. I think she is inclusive. I think she lets people be on their own.And she has a thin, and everyone respects her, which I think is really important for her to be a good leader, guess she is generous and it helps,” the article states. This approach suggests a departure from the more controlling methods sometimes employed by Hari Seldon.

Embracing the “Darker Side”

While Gaal’s leadership is rooted in empathy, Season 3 promises to reveal a more pragmatic and even ruthless side to her personality. Llobell teases a significant character arc where gaal learns to make difficult choices and utilize any means necessary to achieve her goals.

“you see her in a wholly different light,” Llobell shared. “She has improved all these skills and is not afraid to sacrifice or use opportunities to get what she needs and it’s pretty cool to see the darker side.I wouldn’t say it is indeed a dark half, guess she is now well rounded. She has another side that is sometimes not very nice and that’s fine.”

This evolution is directly linked to her relationship with Hari Seldon and his often-opaque methods. Gaal begins to understand the necessity of his calculated decisions, even those she initially resented. “I think [she] probably now understands Hari and understands why he did it [certain] decisions. She obviously hated it [at the time] guess she now sees the value in it.”

The Weight of Narrative and the Future of Foundation

Gaal’s unique narrative viewpoint remains central to Foundation. Her voiceovers bookend most episodes, providing a crucial link between the disparate timelines and storylines. Llobell describes the experience of recording these voiceovers as a fascinating glimpse into the show’s overall structure.

“I see a lot of shots before it’s fully edited together,” llobell said. “So it’s really cool. Guess it’s funny as this season’s voice broadcast was some kind – not the succession, guess we didn’t know how much of it we would do until we come to the cab.”

She characterizes these voiceovers as Gaal’s attempt to contextualize the events unfolding, offering a past account of how the galaxy arrived at its present state. “This is a gaal version of the future for someone who says to someone… ‘Listen, this is the history, this is the story of how we came to where we are now.'”

Foundation Season 3 premieres July 11 on Apple TV+.
