Louisville basketball has secured a commitment from 4-star recruit Boyuan Zhang as head coach Pat Kelsey continues a comprehensive rebuild of the program’s roster for the 2026-27 season.

The commitment was finalized on May 11, 2026, following a visit Zhang made to the university over the preceding weekend. Zhang, a 6-foot-8 wing, is ranked as the No. 46 overall recruit in the 2026 class according to Rivals.

The addition of Zhang comes at a critical juncture for the Cardinals. Coach Kelsey is currently replacing nearly the entire roster from the previous season, having lost the majority of his unit, including all five members of the starting lineup.

Zhang brings a high-scoring profile to the roster, having averaged 20 points per game during the current season. He committed to Louisville after considering several other programs, choosing the Cardinals over Cal, Oregon, Minnesota, and Illinois, all of which had earned official visits.

The recruit’s recent development has been marked by a stint at Veritas Academy. While playing for the academy, Zhang led the team in scoring and ranked second in the Nike EYBL Scholastic League in points per game, where he averaged 20.2 points and 5.7 rebounds per game.

Zhang’s profile also includes significant international experience. During the FIBA U19 World Cup in the summer of 2025 representing China, the forward averaged 14.7 points and 5.1 rebounds per game.

According to reporting from Big Red Louie, Kelsey entered the recruiting process for Zhang relatively late. However, the program was able to secure the commitment following the weekend visit.
