Louisville Hires Kentucky’s Vince Marrow: GM Move Shakes Up Rivalry
Louisville Cardinals Tap Kentucky’s Vince Marrow as GM
In a significant move, Louisville has hired Vince Marrow, formerly the associate head coach at Kentucky, as its new general manager for football. Marrow, who had been an on-field position coach under mark Stoops as 2013,is known for his recruiting prowess, especially in Ohio.
Marrow’s departure comes as college athletics enters a new era of revenue sharing. He signed a $1.3 million contract in September 2024, but incentives at Louisville could push that figure higher, reflecting the increasing value of personnel staffers.
Jeff Brohm’s return to Louisville has revitalized the program. The Cardinals have achieved a 19-8 record in his two seasons, including an ACC Championship Game appearance in 2023. With USC transfer quarterback Miller Moss joining the team in 2025, Louisville is expected to remain a top contender in the ACC. Last season, Louisville defeated Kentucky 41-14.
Marrow’s recruiting skills were crucial to Kentucky’s success under Stoops. He is credited with recruiting 37 four-star prospects, according to 247Sports.
The role of recruiting coordinator is evolving with the advent of revenue sharing. General managers and their staff are now more likely to work off-field, identifying and recruiting players while also managing salary cap figures. Marrow will be the first full-time executive to handle these decisions for Louisville, previously managed by Brohm’s chief of staff.
Stoops led Kentucky to seven winning seasons in eight years. however, after an unsuccessful attempt to leave for Texas A&M in 2023 and a 4-8 season in 2024, the challenges facing Kentucky are becoming more apparent.
Kentucky faces increased competition in a 16-team SEC and must balance revenue sharing between football and men’s basketball. While Louisville also faces funding decisions, Brohm’s rising star makes Marrow’s move a strategic alignment with a program on the upswing.
What’s next
Marrow’s impact on Louisville’s recruiting and overall football strategy will be closely watched as the Cardinals navigate the evolving landscape of college athletics. His ability to identify and attract top talent could be a game-changer for the program’s future success.
