Louisville Woman Places Top 9 in⁢ National Heart Health Campaign, Raising $60,000

LOUISVILLE, Kentucky, Dec. 18, 2024 — Carrie King of Louisville has achieved a remarkable feat,‍ securing a top ⁣9 finish⁢ in the ⁢American Heart Association’s 2024 Leaders of Impact™ campaign. This prestigious national campaign recognizes individuals nominated by their peers to champion the ​fight against heart⁤ disease and stroke thru impactful fundraising and awareness efforts.

King, Louisville’s sole representative in the 2024 campaign, raised an extraordinary $60,850 to support the Association’s mission.For ​King,this cause ​is deeply personal.

“Heart health isn’t ‌just an⁢ abstract cause ⁢for ​me—it’s my reality,” King shared. “I was born with ⁤Wolff-Parkinson-White Syndrome, a condition that disrupts ‌the electrical signals in my heart and has required multiple procedures throughout my life. I’ve ⁢experienced firsthand how vital research, medical ‌advancements, and ‍community support are‍ in managing heart disease. ⁢This nomination allows me to turn my personal journey into something that can‌ help others.”

Heart disease remains the leading cause of death in Kentucky and the‌ United​ States. With an aging⁢ population and a rise in risk factors⁤ among younger​ generations, the ⁤American heart Association projects a significant increase in the⁢ nation’s cost‍ of cardiovascular disease by‍ 2050.

For over a century, the American Heart Association has been at the forefront of the ‍fight against heart disease, removing barriers to health, funding⁣ groundbreaking ‌research, educating healthcare professionals and‍ patients, and advocating for healthy policies.
