LOUISVILLE, Kentucky, Dec. 18, 2024 — Carrie King of Louisville has achieved a remarkable feat, securing a top 9 finish in the American Heart Association’s 2024 Leaders of Impact™ campaign. This prestigious national campaign recognizes individuals nominated by their peers to champion the fight against heart disease and stroke thru impactful fundraising and awareness efforts.
King, Louisville’s sole representative in the 2024 campaign, raised an extraordinary $60,850 to support the Association’s mission.For King,this cause is deeply personal.
“Heart health isn’t just an abstract cause for me—it’s my reality,” King shared. “I was born with Wolff-Parkinson-White Syndrome, a condition that disrupts the electrical signals in my heart and has required multiple procedures throughout my life. I’ve experienced firsthand how vital research, medical advancements, and community support are in managing heart disease. This nomination allows me to turn my personal journey into something that can help others.”

Heart disease remains the leading cause of death in Kentucky and the United States. With an aging population and a rise in risk factors among younger generations, the American heart Association projects a significant increase in the nation’s cost of cardiovascular disease by 2050.
For over a century, the American Heart Association has been at the forefront of the fight against heart disease, removing barriers to health, funding groundbreaking research, educating healthcare professionals and patients, and advocating for healthy policies. In Kentucky alone, there are 30 active AHA-funded research grants totaling $6.8 million. Locally, the Association is investing in initiatives focused on CPR and AED education, blood pressure control, and hypertension management.
The 2024 Leaders of Impact campaign launched on October 17th in hundreds of cities nationwide, culminating on December 4th. Each nominee dedicated themselves to raising critical awareness and funds for the American Heart Association’s mission.
