France’s ⁢National Cyber⁢ Security Agency (ANSSI) discovered a significant security lapse at teh Louvre Museum: access to the server managing the‍ museum’s ⁣video surveillance system was possible using the simple⁤ password “LOUVRE.” This vulnerability was⁤ initially identified in a ⁤2014 audit conducted by ANSSI, according⁢ to confidential documents.

Subsequent audits revealed “serious weaknesses” within ‍the Paris museum’s security infrastructure,extending beyond just the password to include the software utilized. The compromised security network connects “the museum’s⁣ most important security and surveillance equipment,” as detailed in ANSSI’s 2014 assessment.

Potential for Art Theft

Cybersecurity experts warned that gaining control of the⁢ protection system could enable an attacker to facilitate damage or even the theft of artworks. This warning was⁤ reported by Libération.

Recent robbery and Password Status

The revelation of these security flaws comes after a robbery on October ‍19, where thieves stole items valued at ‍$102 million from the museum. It remains unclear whether the Louvre Museum updated its⁣ passwords following the 2014 audit, or prior to this recent⁣ incident.
