Castres, AL – Art lovers in Castres have something extraordinary to look forward to in 2025. The Musée Goya will host a prestigious exhibition featuring masterpieces from the Louvre Museum, including a painting by the renowned El Greco.
“This is a recognition for the museum and a chance for everyone,” said Jean-Philippe Audouy, Castres’ deputy mayor for culture, during tuesday’s city council meeting. The declaration of the 2025 temporary exhibition program was a highlight of the session, which saw 42 deliberations voted on in under two hours.
This exciting partnership follows the Musée goya’s prosperous collaboration wiht the Musée d’Orsay, which loaned works for the current exhibition dedicated to Spanish artist Mariano Fortuny. That exhibition runs until March 9th.
The upcoming exhibition, running from February 8th to September 21st, 2025, will showcase exceptional works from the Louvre’s collection, including a painting by El Greco, a prominent figure of the Spanish Golden Age.
This latest collaboration further solidifies the Musée Goya‘s growing reputation. Since its reopening in April 2023, following a three-year renovation and expansion project, the museum has attracted increased attention. The museum will kick off the year with “Don’t Forget the Flame,” a captivating exhibition featuring the works of contemporary Spanish artist Pilar Albarracin.Running from April 12th to September 28th, 2025, this exhibition promises to be a visual feast.Following closely on its heels, from October 18th, 2025, to February 1st, 2026, the museum will present “Spain Between Two Centuries: Francis Harburger and Bilal Hamdad.” This exhibition, developed in partnership with the Casa Velázquez in Madrid, will explore the dynamic interplay between two artistic perspectives.
To further enrich the visitor experience, the Goya museum will host a variety of educational programs, cultural events, and scientific activities throughout the year.In addition to these exciting exhibitions and programs, the museum has announced revised opening hours to better serve its visitors. Starting January 6th, 2025, the museum will be open Tuesday through Sunday from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm during the off-season (October to May). During peak season (June,July,August,September,and all school holidays),the museum will be open daily from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm.
