Fabian Patterson, a participant in the recent season of Love is Blind: Sverige, has spoken openly about the psychological toll of appearing on the Netflix reality series, describing a period of extreme anxiety following the broadcast of his experience.

Patterson, 38, became a central figure in the season’s drama after his engagement to Ellen O’Reilly, 29, ended abruptly during the reveal phase. The two had become engaged without seeing one another, but O’Reilly declined to move forward with the relationship after their first face-to-face meeting, stating that the process had moved too quickly.

Emotional Exposure and Aftermath

In a detailed account provided to Expressen, Patterson revealed that watching the episodes was a distressing experience. He noted that the editing focused heavily on his vulnerability and emotional distress, rather than his strengths or professional projects.

It was very scary because I expose myself so much, and they show so much of the emotional side of me. And not the strong [side], that I want to do things, that I have many projects. So I have been very ashamed… And then that I have cried and so on. When I had finished watching, I had extreme anxiety all the time, and I couldn’t sleep.

Patterson also admitted to struggling with intrusive thoughts regarding why O’Reilly chose to end the relationship at the reveal. Because the reveal is the first time participants see each other, he questioned whether his physical appearance was the primary reason for the rejection.

While he acknowledged that the situation appeared to be more emotional upon viewing the footage, he told reporters that when alone, he still wondered if his looks were the deciding factor.

He specifically highlighted the impact his openness had on other men, noting that he received messages from viewers thanking him for displaying emotion. Patterson observed that many men do not feel comfortable showing vulnerability, and some viewers told him they identified with the moment his heart was broken on screen.
