The theatrical version will be produced by Project No.9, with Nobu Ryo Yanagi as the director, script co-ordinator Ryuuko Tamada, Shoto Shinkai as character designer, and music composed by Yukari Hashimoto. In terms of voice actors, Shuichiro Umeda voices the protagonist Makoto Hanaoka, and Akira Sekine voices the heroine Saki Aoi.

The original plot of ”Senpai is a Boy” tells the story of the protagonist Makoto Hanaoka, who has a soft spot for cute things and lives in high school as a girl. One day after school, his schoolmate Saki Aoi, who had been mistaken for his girl, suddenly confessed to him. Faced with the affectionate confession of her schoolmate, Makoto told her frankly: “Actually, I am a boy.” However, this rejection did not make Saki shrink back, and thus unfolded a touching story about love, friendship and growth.
