Rockstar Games is breaking the standard mold for interactive entertainment rollout, bypassing routine gaming channels to plant its flag across fashion glossies, lifestyle desks, and professional basketball courts ahead of the scheduled release of Grand Theft Auto 6.
The October 5 issue of LOVE magazine features an interview with Rob Nelson, co-director of Rockstar North.
A Defining First in a 28-Year Franchise
Lucia Caminos stands as the first fully playable and voiced female protagonist in the 28-year history of the Grand Theft Auto franchise. While early iterations included female characters, those figures lacked 3D models and recorded dialogue.
Rupert Humphries, senior vice president of narrative at Rockstar, described Lucia in the LOVE magazine feature as someone driven by a desire for a better life who refuses to let obstacles stand in her way. Screenwriter Elizabeth Gauvey-Kern emphasized that the team set out to construct flawed, balanced personalities capable of mutual learning.
“They have a hopeful naivety as they plunge into a crime spree without weighing the long-term consequences,” Humphries noted of the central duo, whose romantic relationship anchors the storyline.
Store Listings Hint at Mature Adult Content
PlayStation Store listings discovered in Australia and New Zealand indicate that the title will incorporate adult erotic scenes on par with Cyberpunk 2077 or Baldur’s Gate 3. This mature direction mirrors the narrative emphasis on the personal bond shared by Lucia and Jason.
Expanding Open-World Scale and Weather Systems
Underneath the character drama lies a massive technical expansion. Built upon foundations drawn from Red Dead Redemption 2, the game features a dynamic weather engine capable of generating tropical storms and hurricanes that temporarily reshape local environments.

The resulting world map spans roughly twice the physical scope of Grand Theft Auto V. Within that geography, approximately 70 percent of building interiors stand open to player exploration, supported by a wildlife ecology featuring over 170 animal species equipped with realistic fur physics and tracking mechanics.
Developers Research Florida to Ground Vice City Authenticity
To ground Vice City and the surrounding state of Leonida in authenticity, developers carried out extensive on-the-ground research. Rupert Humphries, senior vice president of narrative, confirmed that team members shadowed former police officers, explored local beaches, the Everglades, and the Florida Keys, and visited strip clubs and nightclubs.
That real-world grounding extends directly into marketing activations. Rockstar teamed up with the Miami Heat NBA franchise for an event at the Kaseya Center in Miami, deploying a 400-square-meter rooftop installation featuring a Welcome to Vice City sign. The collaboration also introduced a custom basketball court floor for a November 18 match against the Milwaukee Bucks, alongside a dedicated apparel line of t-shirts, caps, and hoodies retailing between $45 and $110.
