LOVEBITES Band Profile
Formed in 2016 by vocalist Asami, guitarists Midori and Miyako, bassist Miho, and drummer Haruna. They made their debut in May 2017 with the EP “THE LOVEBITES EP”, which was packed with songs that were polished by Mikko Karmila, a talented Finnish engineer team famous for their work with Nightwish, Children of Bodom, and Amorphis, and mastered by Mika Jussila. On October 25th, they released their long-awaited first full album ”Awakening from Abyss”, which ranked 18th overall on the Oricon charts. With the album, they performed live in Tokyo, Nagoya, Osaka, and the UK in November and December.
They made their first festival appearance at “Vans Warped Tour Japan 2018 Presented by XFLAG” in April, and held a solo concert in June with their second mini-album “Battle Against Damnation” released on June 6th. In July, they participated in “HEADSTRONG FES.18″ hosted by ANTHEM. In August, they expanded their activities to the world, appearing at ”Wacken Open Air”, one of the world’s largest metal festivals in Germany, and “Bloodstock Open Air” in the UK. After returning to Japan, they participated in “Metal Mania”, an event hosted by RED BULL, where LOUDNESS also performed, and released their completed second album “Clockwork Immortality” in December 2018. Just before that, in November, they held a European tour organized by X-ray Touring, Europe’s largest booking agency, and after the release, they held their largest ever domestic tour in Japan, covering six cities in January and February 2019. All tickets for this Japan tour, including the additional shows, were sold out. In March, they supported Arch Enemy on their China tour.
In July, they released their first live album, Daughters of the Dawn – Live in Tokyo 2019, which was recorded at the Tokyo BLITZ Akasaka concert during the tour supporting Clockwork Immortality. In June, they also toured the UK’s DOWNLOAD FESTIVAL, Belgium’s GRASPOP METAL MEETING, and Spain’s DOWNLOAD FESTIVAL MADRID. At the UK’s DOWNLOAD, Asami appeared on Halestorm’s stage and sang the song that gave the band its name, Love Bites (So Do I). After returning to Japan, they toured Tokyo, Nagoya, and Osaka in July and August, and also made their first appearance at SUMMER SONIC 2019. From November, they accompanied Dragonforce on their UK tour as special guests.
In January 2020, they released their third album, Electric Pentagram. It reached 9th place, their first time in the Oricon overall top 10. With this masterpiece, they kicked off a tour of Japan in February. In March 2021, they released the mini-album Glory, Glory, to the World, which ranked 10th on the Billboard overall album chart. Immediately after, they kicked off the domestic tour RIDE FOR VENGEANCE TOUR 2021, which will visit four locations across the country. The live album Heavy Metal Never Dies – Live in Tokyo 2021, which contains the Tokyo performance, is scheduled to be released in September. Meanwhile, in August 2021, Miho left the band. As a result, the band went on hiatus for a while. In the meantime, they released their best album, “In the Beginning ~The Best of 2017-2021,” in December of the same year.
In April 2022, auditions were held to find a new bassist. After a long selection process, fami joined in October of the same year. The band, which is now a five-member band again, released their fourth studio album, “Judgment Day,” in February 2023, which ranked fifth in the Oricon weekly rankings. In March, they held a two-day comeback concert, “WE ARE THE RESURRECTION.” All performances of the tour with the new album, which started in August, were sold out. The live album “Knockin’ at Heaven’s Gate ~Live in Tokyo 2023,” released in August, debuted at number one on the Oricon weekly music DVD rankings and Blu-ray rankings.
