November 16, 2024 Catherine Williams - Chief Editor News

The first phase of the LRT1 Cavite extension began operations on November 16, 2024. This phase includes five new stations: Redemptorist – Aseana Station, MIA Road Station, PITX Station, Ninoy Aquino Avenue Station, and Dr. Santos Station.

Light Rail Manila Corp. (LRMC) spokesperson Jacqueline Gorospe reported high passenger traffic on the first day. The busiest stations were PITX, Ninoy Aquino Ave., and Dr. Santos. Many southbound passengers increased from EDSA Station, particularly to PITX. Dr. Santos saw many first-time riders and families using the train instead of personal cars due to it being a weekend.

The LRT1 line now stretches 27 kilometers with a total of 25 stations. The train service hours remain unchanged. On weekdays, trains depart from Dr. Santos and Fernando Poe Jr. Station at 4:30 a.m. The last train leaves Dr. Santos at 10:00 p.m. and Fernando Poe Jr. Station at 10:15 p.m.

During weekends and holidays, the first train departs at 5:00 a.m., and the last train leaves at 9:30 p.m. from Dr. Santos and 9:45 p.m. from Fernando Poe Jr. Station.

What ⁤are the main benefits of the LRT1 Cavite extension⁣ for commuters in ‍the Metro Manila ⁣area?

Interview with Transportation Specialist on LRT1 Cavite Extension Opening

Interviewer: Thank you for joining us today. The LRT1 Cavite extension officially began operations on November ‌16, 2024. Can you⁣ share⁤ your initial thoughts on this significant⁢ milestone?

Specialist: Absolutely, ‍this is a landmark development in the public transport landscape of Metro Manila. The addition of‍ five new stations – Redemptorist-Aseana, MIA Road, PITX, Ninoy Aquino Avenue,⁤ and Dr. Santos – is a crucial step⁢ in improving connectivity for commuters in the Cavite area. It not only reduces travel times but also⁤ aims to encourage the use of⁢ public transport over private vehicles, which is vital for mitigating traffic congestion.

Interviewer: Jacqueline Gorospe from Light Rail ⁣Manila ⁤Corp. reported high passenger ⁤traffic on the first day, especially at PITX, Ninoy Aquino Ave., and‍ Dr. Santos stations. What do you think contributed to this high ridership?

Specialist: The opening day likely drew significant attention, especially as it fell⁤ on a weekend. Families ‌and first-time⁤ riders often seize such opportunities to explore new transit options. The convenience of ‍using the LRT instead of facing heavy weekend traffic ⁤in their personal vehicles was definitely‍ a pull‌ factor. Additionally, ‍the strategic locations ⁣of these stations, particularly around transport hubs like PITX, made‍ them more appealing for commuters.

Interviewer: With the extension, the‍ LRT1 line now stretches ⁤27 ‍kilometers. How‍ does this extension affect the daily commuting experience?

Specialist: The expanded reach of the LRT1 greatly enhances accessibility. Commuters now have more options and can travel longer distances without ⁢transferring to other lines as frequently. The set⁣ train service hours make it reliable‍ for both early risers and those finishing late at work. The consistency in scheduling, especially on⁣ weekends, further solidifies its role as a‍ dependable transport⁤ option.

Interviewer: The fare structure remains unchanged with a maximum fare of P45⁣ from Fernando Poe Jr. Station to Dr. Santos. How do you view this pricing in relation to the service provided?

Specialist: ‌ The fare structure is quite reasonable, especially ⁤when considering the⁣ distance covered and ‍the comfort of the train service. Public ‌transport‍ needs to be‍ affordable to encourage more people to use it. The pricing at P13.29 for boarding and P1.21 per kilometer strikes a balance between sustainability for the⁣ operator and accessibility⁣ for the riders, ⁢which is essential for long-term ridership growth.

Interviewer: What‍ are the broader implications of the LRT1 Cavite extension for the community and⁣ urban planning in the area?

Specialist: This extension is poised to ⁤reshape how people in the Cavite‍ area commute and interact with Manila. By providing a reliable public‌ transport option, it encourages economic growth,⁤ increases property values near the stations,⁤ and promotes urban development.‌ Furthermore, it plays a critical role in reducing carbon emissions by incentivizing public transport over personal vehicles, contributing to a more sustainable urban environment.

Interviewer: ‍ Lastly, what‍ do you think should be the next steps for⁣ further ‍improving‌ public transport in the region?

Specialist: Continued investment in public transport infrastructure is vital. Expanding existing lines, introducing more feeder buses, and enhancing connectivity with other transport modes should be ⁣prioritized. Additionally, ongoing community engagement to‍ gather rider feedback can ⁣guide future developments to better meet⁣ the needs of the commuters. Creating ‌a seamless, multi-modal‌ transport network will be the key to revolutionizing public transport in‍ the region.

Interviewer: Thank you for ‌your insights.‌ The impact of the LRT1 Cavite extension will surely‌ be felt for years to ⁤come.

Specialist: ‍ Thank you for having me. It’s an ⁢exciting time for public transport in ‌the region, and I look forward to⁤ seeing how ⁤it evolves.

The fare structure for the new stations stays the same. The boarding fare is P13.29, and the distance fare is P1.21 per kilometer. The maximum fare from Fernando Poe Jr. Station to Dr. Santos Station is P45 for a single journey ticket and P43 for a stored value card.

This expansion is set to improve public transport in the Cavite area, making it easier for commuters to travel.
