The LSU Tigers baseball team secured their fourth consecutive win on , defeating the Kent State Golden Flashes 10-7 at Alex Box Stadium, Skip Bertman Field. The victory improves LSU’s overall record to 4-0, while Kent State falls to 3-1.
A dominant offensive performance, highlighted by four home runs – including two from junior right fielder Jake Brown – propelled the Tigers to victory. Brown’s performance marks the third two-homer game of his career, following previous instances against Arkansas on , and against Milwaukee earlier this season. He is the first LSU player to achieve this feat in back-to-back games since Jared Jones in .
The scoring began in the bottom of the first inning with Brown’s 403-foot home run to right-center field. LSU extended their lead in the second inning thanks to a three-run homer by freshman designated hitter Mason Braun, following walks by fifth-year senior second baseman Seth Dardar and a bunt single from senior left fielder Tanner Reaves. Braun’s first collegiate home run landed down the left field line.
Kent State responded in the top of the third with a three-run home run from right fielder Sawyer Solitaria, narrowing the gap to 4-3. However, Brown quickly restored LSU’s momentum with his second home run of the night, a shot to dead center field, increasing the lead to 5-3.
LSU continued to build their advantage throughout the game. Two more runs were added in the third inning via singles and a two-run double. Sophomore catcher Cade Arrambide contributed an RBI single in the fifth, scoring junior shortstop Steven Milam, bringing the score to 8-3. A wild pitch in the same inning allowed sophomore center fielder Derek Curiel to score, extending the lead to 9-3.
Senior first baseman Zach Yorke joined the home run parade in the sixth inning with his second of the season, landing in the right field Diamond Deck, pushing LSU’s lead to 10-3.
Kent State attempted a late rally in the seventh inning. Second baseman Brody Williams cleared the bases with a bases-clearing double down the left field line, making the score 10-6. Center fielder Micah Rienstra-Kirac followed with an RBI single, bringing the score to 10-7. However, LSU’s pitching held strong, maintaining the lead for the remainder of the game.
LSU coach Jay Johnson praised the team’s performance, stating, “It was a great win for our team, one of the best wins of the early season in college baseball.” He also highlighted the team’s offensive prowess, adding, “I really think that offensively we were very good.”
On the mound, LSU utilized seven different pitchers. Junior Jaden Noot started the game, pitching three innings and allowing three runs on three hits with four strikeouts. Freshman reliever Ethan Plog (1-0) earned his first career win, pitching one scoreless inning with two strikeouts and one walk. Sophomores Deven Sheerin and Mavrick Rizy combined for three scoreless innings. Junior DJ Primeaux and senior Grant Fontenot each gave up four earned runs before Gavin Guidry closed out the game.
Guidry pitched 2.1 innings, striking out five batters without allowing a run or hit, earning his first save of the season. Johnson lauded Guidry’s performance, stating, “I feel like Gavin is the best closer in the country, and what’s remarkable is that we won the 2025 National Championship last season while he was out with an injury. We are very grateful he’s back on the mound, obviously.”
LSU will next face the Nicholls Colonels on , at home. The game will be streamed on SEC Network + at 1 p.m. CT and available on the LSU Sports Radio Network affiliates.
