OMAHA, Neb. – The LSU Tigers cemented their status as a college baseball dynasty, capturing their eighth Men’s College World Series (MCWS) title on sunday. The victory sparks the perennial debate: Is LSU the greatest college baseball program of all time?
Ethan Frey, LSU designated hitter, acknowledged the program’s legacy. “I don’t think there’s anyone here that’s going to argue with you on that,” Frey said, gesturing to the crowd. “What I know is that when we go to work every day, we do it trying to make the Tigers that came before us proud. Hopefully we have. They built it. We build on that.”
While USC holds the overall record with 12 national championships, their last title came in 1998. LSU’s eight titles have all been won as 1991. skip Bertman, who coached LSU to five titles between 1991 and 2000, watched from the field. “This city feels like home to us,” Bertman said. “When we come here, we bring a lot of folks from home, but there are also so many people who live here that wear our colors as they grew up watching us play during so many summers.
